Here's what Adam has to say about it:
Our show, Quantanime, an interactive, creative and musical story, about an hour and a half long, and is about a young man's journey to discover meaning and unity in a very confusing world, with time-mages, mystical powers and many obstacles.
"When a treacherous murder brings Malakai to his mother's deathbed, he embarks on a tumultuous quest to save his world from the devious designs of his power-crazed twin brother Jubei. In a comic game of cat and mouse Malakai and Jubei trek all the way from the mountain palace of the mischievious monkey king to the magical world of dreams in search of the four celestial totems of great knowledge. While Malakai longs to unite the people of Quanta by placing the four sacred artifacts in the ark of creation, Jubei covets their power and he won't stop until only he is supreme ruler of Quanta."

These guys are masters of cpheres, wands, belly dancing, pi, staff, juggling, acro, and mor eand more and more.

I don't thnk I need to say anymore. See you all Wednesday night for the jam!

Greetings Hoopers of Philadelphia!

World Hoop Day is on Friday, and your participation and enthusiasm is desperately needed!!! While we await confirmation of our permit, you can help us bring it all together and make this a really special day for the children of Philadelphia.

Everyone can find a way to help out:

1.) GET YOUR HOOP ON!

Let us converge at Love Park from 11am-3pm on Friday, 8/8/08, to spread the hoopbliss to children of all ages in our city. Several rec centers will be making the trip to Love Park with their kids to come and hoop with us, and we hope you'll all be there to share the joy! We will have some guests playing music to keep the beats bumpin', so come ready to dance and have fun! Bring some hoops to give away!

2.) OPEN YOUR HEART (AND YOUR WALLET, PLEASE!)

We are collecting donations for hoop supplies.
We want to make as many hoops as we can to give away on Friday, and we all know that has a cost.
If you can make a donation, please do so via Paypal ASAP. We'd like to get the supplies in hand by the end of the day tomorrow and your donation can help make that happen!!!
Go to paypal.com, click "send money", and direct your donations to Jen Alvarez (our own lovely J-Hoop) at JenAlvarez@comcast.net.
You can even bring along some of your own home-made hoops (for the older kids) or store-bought kid's hoops (for the itty bitty young'ns!) to give away at Love Park.

3.) YOU'RE INVITED TO A HOOP-MAKING PARTY!!!

If you'd like to help by donating your time to make and decorate the hoops we'll be giving away, please send me (Tribe: Coehlo, email: whoopitup1@gmail.com) or J-Hoop (Tribe: J-Hoop, email: jenalvarez@comcast.net) a private message requesting more information about the Hoop-Making Party we're planning for one evening this week. Many hands make light work!

Thank you in advance!

With lots of love,

It's time for another amazing PEX fundraiser!!! http://www.thephiladelphiaexperiment.org/ This time, we are about to head out to the playa. With mounting costs everywhere we turn and less opportunity to raise funds, PEX needs your support now more than ever. We fire organizers hammered out some significant bumps at the last Shampoo event, the most significant of which was receiving the first large scale fire performance permit from the Philadelphia Fire Department. With that under our belt we feel more comfortable moving forward the way in which has been a keystone of our fire community since it’s inception - in the way we most feel true… by encouraging participation and radical inclusion with fire!

This time around, we open the doors a little wider to include those who have fire insurance through COTUS to spin fire on the large outdoor stage. Of course, we’ll need to contact you with boring details that we don’t need to yawn the masses with, so please simply send your reply to Lucky at the address provided below by this weekend and we will contact you by the middle of next week with the info you need to know. There will be a mandatory meeting and proof of insurance will be required for those participating.

Thank you so much for your support and for keeping the fire alive!!!
And I'm sorry to say I won't be able to make Burning Man this year... with the car accident we got into, there's definitely money problems now. Kevin's still going, but I opted to stay behind because there's always next year for me, and I'm still a bit overwhelmed with the new scene here. But I definitely look forward to it next year if fire's involved (secret pyromaniac..)

Saturday august 16th, I'm going out to Hershey PA for an event (an open house-like monthly gathering at a really funky cool nail salon)

I've offered to perform fire for free (since I know the owner) for practice performing on my own...

I am in the midst of training the guy I'm seeing to safety, so I will have that covered, but if anyone is interested in tagging along to perform and help safety, I'd love to have you join us!

Can't offer money, but I'll drive, and bring all fuel/supplies needed besides your personal fire tools. We may be able to ask to pass a hat around, or we may be gifted with perfume (Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab - the reason for the open house actually.) or other things from the nail salon... but I can't promise any of that for sure. So if you'd like to have a fun afternoon/night out, play with fire, and only pay for your dinner (we can do it cheaply, there's a sonic nearby!) let me know. ;o)

We are probably going to site-see all Saturday afternoon. I though it would be cool to ask some of you if there are any burner events happening this weekend or in the evenings. Any fire spinning going on tonight or tomorrow? Cool DJing somewhere? I'm also simply just looking for any suggestions on places to go that are not necessarily touristicky. Whatever cool places to see, eat at..etc from a local's perspective you can think of would be appreciated

I'd like to begin building the list of fire performers and artists
that plan to participate in the Fire Conclave this summer.

Over the last 4 years the Conclave has grown to what was estimated at
more than 100 performers last year! Some of you were in contact with
Bash prior to the event but the majority of you just sort of showed up
for the safety meeting and roll call before the show. That chaos we
all know and love will continue of course but I want to make the
effort again to get an idea of who is committed and also touch base
with anyone who has special needs (fireworks, breathing, steel wool,
monster equipment, etc..)

As the Conclave grows we must also grow the safety team. If you have
friends that can commit to being sober and aware during the burn and
would like to spend the Conclave inside the Circle please have them
contact me (kphonik@gmail.com) or better yet sign up on the website
at: http://www.transformus.com/community/
Greetings Everyone !

It's time to seek out those that are interested in Fire Performing, Fire Dancing, and those special behind the scene peps that keep it all safe and organized, the Fire Safety Crew.

Having been a participant in the Inner Circle at Burning Man and at other burns, I can tell you that it is truly an honor and a priviledge. A real gift of sharing to the community. So if your headed to Wicker Man and are interested in being a special part of the burn event this is a great way to participate.

I am looking for a head count. So shout out if your are ready to strut your stuff as an experienced and talented Fire Performer or Fire Dancer or if your are interested in participating on our Fire Safeties Crew. No worries, for those that have interest but are not quite ready to perform, your help is needed as a Fire Safety. And yes, for those with no experience as a Fire Safety, we will teach you !!

There will be a mandatory coordination meeting for those that are interested in participating which will provide all the details, as well as training for Fire Safeties on Saturday @ 2:00pm. At this meeting you will recieve your placard pass which will allow you access and the honor to be in Wicker Man's "Inner Circle".

The meeting will be held at the Dining Hall Tent. This is the large shade tent about half way down the hill on the left side, across from the kitchen.

Rumors spreading fast across the internet have been confirmed. Last night at approximately 11:05 PM in the North Philadelphia section of the city known as Kensington, there was a brief sighting of a giant octopus mysteriously gliding down Hancock Street and disappearing around the corner of Diamond Street. The octopus was “large and all wiggly,” it had “long giant fluffy arms” claimed a local un-named neighborhood witness. Approximate size of 12 feet in height and “about 10 feet from arm to arm” have been reported.

Scientists speculate this might be the first confirmed sighting in 73 years of a sub-species long thought to be extinct named Octovishnu. How Octovishnu traveled from the depth of its once natural habitat of the Indian Ocean to the banks of the Delaware is still a mystery. Debates are raging in the community on whether the animal has arrived in peace or here for another, more sinister intent. The press is waiting on official comments from Mayor Nutter.

hey guys!

I was browsing the Burning Man ranger manual (I was debating whether to attend training for it, but thinking no because I'm in conclave and they require a shift on burn day)

http://rangers.burningman.com/resources.shtml

In regards to fire art, it states that most fire breathers use high proof grain alcohol or white gas.

I realize that rangers may not need to understand fully the ins and outs of fuels, but to me this really is putting the wrong information out there. Would anyone more experienced in fire breathing like to email them regarding this?

I'd be happy to start a discussion with them, and will if no one else has time, but I don't have experience with fire breathing myself and thought one of you may be better suited.

In case you can't view the document, here is the whole paragraph on fire art. It's brief, which is understandable, and I feel it is accurate enough with regards to the rest of the statement. but I'd rather have more accurate fuel and safety information out there.

"Fire Art
Fire art is a traditional part of Burning Man. Rangers should not intervene
except under certain conditions such as in instances of obvious risk to other
campsites or participants. High proof grain alcohol is the most commonly
used flammable liquid for fire breathing. White gas is also sometimes used,
but is very dangerous. A safety person with a wet towel should always be
nearby during fire performances and any gas supply containers should be
small, capped, and away from the immediate area of the performance. Do
not interrupt a performance in progress unless there is imminent danger to
other participants or camps. Most fire performers are usually experienced and
practice their art safely. Large-scale works of art may be burned only within
designated areas and precautions should be taken to ensure a safe burn. If you
have a question of whether a fire is appropriate, refer it to your shift leader.
Fires should not threaten nearby structures that are not intended for burning.
Every participant has the right to experience flame. Falling into a fire can be
fatal, even with limited exposure time."

Thanks! ;o)

I have their ticket available and can bring it to Pheonix Rising, if anyone wants it and lets me know in advance. Price is $36, (what I paid for it with handling) If you need a ticket and don't want to take a chance on gate sales, shoot over an e-mail & let me know.

Thanks & C Ya @ Pheonix Rising

One time, this guy was really really drunk and didn't go through the process of getting insured and all to perform for a PEX event. He brought his poi up to me and asked if he could spin fire. I said thanks but not tonight, I really didn't want him spinning intoxcated and that I hoped he understood my need to protect the masses VS his want to spin a little fire. He agreed that he wouldn't spin. He asked me again later, I shot him down with a bit more firmness, insisting that he just put his poi away and really, thanks so much for the offer, but do not spin, I insist.
THEN, LATER... ...
He sneakily snuck into the fuel dump while everyone was on a long break, and dipped, and lit up in the performance area. When my colleague saw this infamous character, knowing full well he was drunk and reckless, he immediately went to act a a responsible safety and extinguish his wicks, the character lit my colleague on fire because he was spinning with his eyes closed and not paying attention.
Long story short, everyone was ok, but we had to sit down with said person right then and there and come up with some kind of plan.
I told him I was pissed that he put people at risk, spun uninvited, uninsured and intoxicated. His laxidazeical attitude confirmed that he really didn't care, and that if given the chance, he would probably do it again.
We told him that because of this, we were uncomfortable with him EVER spinning fire in the warehouse again, and that he is never welcome to ignite a fire tool in that space, for as long as he is among us. He agreed and that was that.

In that case, we had to make a decision right then and there, on the spot. Considering all of the factors involved, knowing this person's history of reckless behavior and mental instability I am still comfortable with the decision we made that evening.

Now, after saying that, community, with my mind on the future, I ask you this...

What do we do with someone who deliberately goes against the safety rules at an indoor spin jam, paying no mind to the safety plan in place? Who even after an organizer says, I insist that you do not do X,Y, and Z indoors at the warehouse, this person does it anyway, without respect for the wishes of the community-written safety rules and without regard for the safety of others or the space so graciously provided.

What say you?

My hubby and I are leaving for Cape Verde, Africa with the Peace Corps in July. I will be working as a Youth Mobilizer for the next 2+ years and I've been tossing the idea around in my head to bring some hoops with me as a way to break the ice/make a fool of myself/entertain the kids and adults, especially when I'm first learning the languages and trying to integrate into the community. This may later develop into a larger "secondary" project, but for now I was hoping to use hooping (he he) as an ice breaker - I know folks that bring cool stuff like kites tend to become heroes to the kids pretty quick! Lots of them play with old tires and sticks for fun; personally I think that's got nothin' on hoopin' :o)

So having said that...I have neither the time, money or knowledge of how to make collapsable hoops. Time is going to scrambling to pack, learn Portuguese and finish PC paperwork. $$ is going to pay off debt so we can actually GO. And I guess knowledge would fall in with time...

If anyone either has an extra collapsible hoop that they wouldn't mind parting with, or would like to make one to donate, it would be much appreciated!!! I will most likely only be able to bring 2-4 with me to start but will have my family ship me any extras once I get there - PC only allows so much luggage, so they have to be collapsible. Ideally I would bring 2 adult size hoops and 2 kid size hoops, and my Hoop Girl Instruction video lol. Of course I'll be posting pics and video of everyone hooping!

Thanks in advance to any one who can help!

This is not a party (but it will be fun)!
This is a no-spectator event but all fire artists are welcome. We will have outdoor spins soon where everyone and their mom will be invited.
BYOBeverages & food, we have none.
Please do not attempt to spin fire if intoxicated.
If you'd like to spin fire, please only do so if you have had official training by a fire safety professional and you know the house rules.
There will not be an official safety training course held that day, see me EARLY (8) if you need a run-through.
I know nothing of overseas visitors, I have not received confirmation from anyone about that (was waiting for it but ain't waitin' no mo').
This is a leave no trace event so please be prepared to clean up after yourself (for realz, we may need a strike team at the end if people don't take care of this).
All those who perform for PEX events have this, and you should too if you're performing in public. In my opinion it is a MUST for all professional fire performers and those who do "gigs" with fire.
with workshops in poi, diabolo, passing patterns and more!

with a spectacular show featuring

Erik Aberg:

Erik Åberg is a juggler from Sweden. His main focus is on research for new techniques of throwing and manipulating objects. He has been invited to conventions in France, Greece, Japan, America, Israel and Finland. In contemporary circus he´s been cooperating with the companies Circo Aereo, Idiot Savant, Croissant Bleu and Cirkus Cirkor. Eriks specialities are rolling and placing techniques with balls on the head and box manipulation.

Rhys Thomas:

20 years ago today, Rhys Thomas began performing comedy juggling for a living. He's still alive! Literally by dogsled, cruiseship, jet plane and solar auto Rhys has delivered his "JuggleMania" shows to theatres and festivals on three continents. Accomplishments include (but are not limited to) Artist in Residence at the Smithsonian Institution, Best American Act at the Street Performer Worldcup in Shizuoka Japan, International Jugglers Assn. and European Jugglers Assn. command performances, and did I mention 20 years of making a living juggling?

Jen Slaw from Philadelphia

Meghan Claire Pike:

Meghan is a well known face around the Scottish and UK juggling scene and her fluid contact staff routines are always well received by jugglers and the public alike. From fast spins to graceful body rolls there's a bit of something for everyone. It is rare to see this uncommon skill executed quite so artistically.

I work in Northern Liberties and could leave straight from there. Anyone heading up there/willing to drive late-night style with me?? I have money for gas and, of course, excellent banter :) Of course, if anyone has an extra vehichle they would let me borrow, that would be amazing, too. Just putting it out there! :)

Invites/Tickets
Requesting Transformus Invites

* We are able to invite 1,500 people to the event this year. Each invite will cost $55. Children age 5 and under enter free with parent or legal guardian.
* In order to attend the event, you (or someone on your behalf) must complete a request form starting Friday, Feb. 29 at noon (Eastern). You will have until the end of the day on Sunday, March 9, to complete the form. There is no advantage in completing your form before others, as long as everyone meets the March 9 deadline.
* At that time, the first 1,350 invites will be determined from all the requests that have been submitted. The remaining invites will be determined later to make sure we have covered the critical infrastructure roles.
* We will inform you as soon as we have completed the initial process, no later than March 16. If we were able to invite you, you will have until noon on April 9 to pay via PayPal.
* Just like the first two years, we are going to issue electronic instead of paper tickets. You will receive a souvenir paper ticket when you arrive, but in order to gain admittance each person is asked to present his or her own personal secret code that we will issue.
* We have a "frequently asked questions" section on the web site. Please see the Read more... link below.

What you should do between now and the end of Sunday, March 9 (Eastern time)

* Complete the request form at http://www.transformus.com/invites/request . (Please use a PC or Mac web browser since we have tested several of those.) You may have to create an account and/or login to do so. Make sure you press the Submit button and that you see the following message below the form to be sure that it was submitted: "Your invite request form has been successfully submitted."
