Thanks Lauren for organizing the last spin, so much fun. It was such a great time that I figured it would be good to set a date for the next one. Thursday, July 24th, 8pm. Come at the beginning to learn or teach a few new moves. FIre to follow sundown. Safety training available upon request, just ask around for me if we haven't yet met.
Also please let us know if you'd be willing to stay until the end of the jam to volunteer to help pick up any garbage people may have forgotten.
See you there!!!

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Fri, July 11, 2008 - 11:29 PMYAY! That is right when I am getting home from Texas. oh by the way - does anyone need aluminum pipe for staffs? Mike Icon says he can't find any in the area but found it in Cali, so I am going to look for some in Texas. I have plenty of space in the truck, just need to know if I should get a little or alot.

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 6:40 AMHey guys, I'm new to Tribe.net....
Are your fire jams open to outsiders from distant lands? Or at least the Lehigh Valley? I've been doing poi for about 6 months and I'd love to hook up with some fire spinners in the area!
Thanks! -

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 6:55 AMof course you are welcome!

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 10:30 AMThanks Lauren! I hope I can make it (have some awkward scheduling the next couple weeks, work and otherwise but I'll try to free up the evening)! Anything particular I ought to bring along? I can bring some fuel... What are you guys using? I've been doing a 70/30ish Tiki fuel and Coleman fuel mix since it's a bit cheaper than straight Coleman.
-
-
Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 10:48 AMDon't mix Tiki Fuel with Coleman, if anything use regular lamp oil. Tiki fuel has additives in it that you probably don't want to be breathing in. Not that breathing in Lamp Oil fumes is safe, but Tiki Fuel is worse. -
-
Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 11:26 AMthere is a tiki brand "ultra pure" lamp oil. i picked it up for conclave, and at first lucky thought it wasn't good but upon closer inspection he approved it. (it was in walmart, next to the yellow tiki fuel, but it's clear and states "ultra pure" on it.)
i can't vouch one way or another on it, but just for clarification ;o) -

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 11:47 AMThat sounds fine, I've never heard of that until now though. Thanks for the info HunnyBear. I'll check it out next time I go in Wal Mart (whenever that may be...who knows). -
-
Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 1:38 PMyea, tiki does make ultra pure, as well as their traditional torch fuel. former: good. latter: bad. -
-
Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Wed, July 16, 2008 - 6:38 AMYeah the clear lamp oil is what I use (although I have used the citronella in a pinch, there being several tiki torches around, I admit)...
Thanks for the info though guys! -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Mon, July 21, 2008 - 7:36 PMOk, for those of us who don't go to Philadelphia that often, it's at Clark Park, yes? What's the parking situation like? I only ask because of its relevance to my having to park there! :)
Thanks guys! -

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Mon, July 21, 2008 - 10:05 PMThanks for volunteering to help clean up Jess, very sweet of you.
Mucky, there will be plenty of parking. We'll be down in the bowl, under the kiddie playground.
See you there -

CANCELLED???
Wed, July 23, 2008 - 7:34 PM
If it rains tomorrow, please consider the spin jam officially cancelled.
Ok, I was just caught in the worst storm I've ever been in the middle of. the lightning was relentless and all around me, hail too. All of the cars stopped on 676 right in the middle of the road. It's rained terrentially a number of times today, and the forecast calls for rain for most of tomorrow. I have seen the bowl at clark park fill up like a swimming pool in the past. Even if it doesn't rain in the evening, it will be all too likely to be soggy and unwelcoming for walking, let alone spinning, sitting, chilling.
For those of you who may still want to risk a random storm, or who doesn't mind getting covered in mud... Please be forewarned... Fire is (unofficially) welcome in the bowl at Clark Park, but not up on the street level - there are too many risk factors up top. Please do not show up and think it's ok to spin fire anywhere but in the bowl. We've been using fire in the bowl for 4 summers and I think nobody has stopped us because there's nothing to set on fire down there but ourselves, this is not true for the higher grounds so please take heed. We all want to be able to rock the park out for years to come. We've just been contacted by the park organizers recently (more on that to come) and want to keep a good relationship with them, this won't happen if we set the place ablaze.
I do love this weather, It's just not great for spinning. Think dry... -

Re: CANCELLED???
Wed, July 23, 2008 - 9:03 PMSorry just got back from texas in a giant truck with all my stuff a few days ago and haven't got the pics from the tripod guy posted from the last jam. I will venture down to south jersey to get them as soon as I can and post a new posting with the link.

Re: CANCELLED???
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 6:24 AMSuch a shame....a rain date will come though!
Just a note for someone braving the mud- it's not good for the ground or grass so please be careful that you don't tear up the land
And in case you are curious of my hidden skills and talents, a particularly refined one is moving during thunderstorms! WooOHOoooO to downpour

Re: CANCELLED???
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 7:48 AMHey DD,
What's the official word on this evening? Weather.com official forecast:
1pm - 8pm
80 degrees and SUNNY!
8pm - 10pm
70 degrees and Mostly Clear.
Sounds like perfect spinning weather to me!

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 5:22 AMaccording to weather.com, it's supposed to clear up around 4 pm with partly cloudy skies, then give way to full on sunny skies for the remainder of the evening until dark. it's supposed to be about 73 around nightfall....

-
Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 9:06 AMI think DD's concern is with the torrential downpours all last night, the bowl will probably be a slippery mess despite what seems to be clearing weather today. -
-
Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 10:46 AMDoes anyone live close enough to go check out the conditions before tonight? I live outside the city and don't want to waste the gas if it's too nasty in the bowl! -
-
Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 11:14 AMMy guess is with the beautiful day we are having, and no rain in sight, fire should be fine tonight. I suppose it will be a whoever shows up- shows up kind of night.... but how is that different from any other night. ;-) -

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 12:25 PMIt did rain all last night and some this morning.
However, Meeya has agreed to showup at 8 to start the festivities off (I had called a organizers meeting thinking it was going to be too wet) so we will show up after our meeting. I'm going to try and bring the nice, safe metal fuel box to use (I am anti-plastic bucket). See you down there a little later!!! -

Re: Next Spin Jam ~ Thursday, July 24th
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 4:17 PMI can't say 100% I'll be there, but i'll more then likely be there. Coleman camp fuel is 8.00 a can at the Wally world next to me. If you want I can pick you up a can or 2.
Let me know before 8ish.
